There are three types of dental veneers;

  1. Porcelain Dental Laminate Veneers: Following the tooth preparation and impression in the first appointment, the porcelain veneer can be completed within 24 hours. E-max veneers are the most reputable dental veneer materials that are prepared on CAD/CAM devices within hours.
  2. Direct Composite Veneers (Composite Bonding): Dentists can complete Direct Composite Veneers in a single appointment within 2 hours. For composite veneers, dentists apply multiple layers and colours of dental composite to the tooth surface and cure it with a light. Therefore, the result is very quick compared to other dental veneer options.
  3. Indirect Composite Veneers: In this method, dentist takes impression of the teeth after minimal preparation and then completes the restoration on a model which is a copy of the patient’s mouth. Once the restoration on the model is ready, dentists transfer it to patients mouth with bonding adhesives.

Dentists use dental veneers to cover tooth discolourations, tooth shape anomalies, closing the gaps, straightening teeth and whitening. Dental veneers in Turkey require minimal tooth preparation on the tooth surface and also provide excellent aesthetic results.

Despite the aforementioned advantages, dental veneers are less durable than Porcelain Fused to Zirconia (PFZ) or Porcelain Fused to Metal (PFM) crowns. Moreover, because of the minimal preparation and the thin form, their bonding force is not as strong as dental crowns. Therefore, veneers are more likely to de-bond after using them for a while.

Advantages of Dental Veneers

  • Excellent aesthetic results.
  • Conservative approach; requires minimal tooth preparation.
  • Short treatment duration. E-max or composite veneers can be completed in one day.
  • Non-allergic.
  • Can be done without tooth tissue removal. Therefore, reversible.

Disadvantages of Dental Veneers

  • Requires extra care of the bite adjustment. If the bite is not suitable or done poorly, can debond or get fractured.
  • Low durability. Veneers can fracture easily if used on high load bearing teeth such as molars.
  • They are more expensive than other aesthetic options.
  • Not suitable for back teeth.

The Usage Of Veneers

Veneers can be used on front teeth under following circumstances;

  • Tooth discolourations
  • Mis-shaped tooth
  • Chipped tooth
  • Gaps between teeth

2. Dental Crowns in Turkey

Dental crowns cover the entire tooth surfaces. Therefore, dentists need to remove the tooth tissue from all around the tooth. Moreover, this is an irreversible procedure. It is not wrong to tell that dental crowns are more radical alternatives of dental veneers.Laura - Zirconia Crowns Before & After non-retracted

Although dental crowns are not as conservative as veneers, they bond to tooth better than veneers so unlikely to de-bond. Therefore, crowns are more resilient than veneers as well. Moreover, zirconia crowns give great aesthetic and natural results.

As we mentioned types of dental veneers earlier, there are also different types of dental crowns as follows;

  1. Porcelain Fused to Zirconia Crowns (PFZ Crowns): Excellent aesthetic results, resilient.
  2. Porcelain Fused to Metal Crown (PFM Crowns): Highly aesthetic results, resilient.
  3. Full Ceramic Crowns: Excellent aesthetic results, not as durable as PFZ Crowns.
  4. Gold Crowns: Not aesthetic, very resilient.
  5. Full Metal Crowns: Not aesthetic, very resilient.

Advantages of Dental Crowns (Zirconia Crowns)

  • Excellent aesthetic results.
  • Good bonding strength.
  • Provides support to weak teeth.
  • Resilient under pressure.
  • Zirconia is a non-allergic material.
  • More affordable than E-max material.
  • Suitable for both back and front teeth.

Disadvantages of Dental Crowns (Zirconia Crowns)

If you have badly damaged teeth or teeth with large previous restorations, the answer for improving the aesthetics is simple, crowns. It can be tooth supported or implant supported crown, or a crown placed over a post-core build-up to restore the lost tooth tissues.

But what if your teeth are “not that bad”? Welcome to the grayish area of our subject, choosing the correct restoration type for you as a dental patient travelling to our clinic from a different country. When we are performing aesthetic work for our local patients, we do not need to consider anything other than the previously mentioned advantages and disadvantages. Complications are always possible and in case of a complication, we can intervene quickly on an emergency appointment. However, there is a fact that most of the people who are reading this page are travelling to our clinic for aesthetic dental work from abroad. This brings a few more things into consideration when deciding for the type of the most suitable dental restoration type.

So, your teeth are healthy, well-aligned, and you just want to improve aesthetics. Sounds like veneers are the perfect solution, right? But laminate veneers are so thin and therefore not as strong as crowns. What if they chip or decement when you chew hard food, or grind at night in your hometown? Should we go for crowns in this case, as they are more durable? Hold on, crowns require more tooth reduction than laminate veneers. Will the amount of tooth reduction cause any complications such as sensitivity or spontaneous pain after you travel back to your country? Will you be able to travel to Turkey for an emergency appointment? Or, will you be able to find a dentist in your hometown for same reason? These are only a small number of questions that we consider when choosing the correct aesthetic dental restoration type for our international patients.
